On Thursday, June 20, the Preparatory Meeting of the Triangles Strategy was successfully held at the headquarters of Panama's Customs Authority, seeking to reduce the incidence and negative effects of illicit trade in the region.

Growth and Change from COEPA to the Triangles Strategy

As part of the preparatory meeting for the expansion of COEPA, the most significant public-private strategic and operational alliance in the region to combat illicit trade in Latin America and the Caribbean, Strategos BIP convened authorities, the private sector, international organizations and academia in Panama City.

The expansion of COEPA into the Triangles Strategy involves including Peru, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic in the COEPA triangle, as well as adding two other triangles: the Northern Triangle (Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico) and the Southern Triangle (Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay).

Working Table and Signing of the Agreement between OAS-DDOT and Strategos BIP

At the meeting, the agreement was signed with the Department against Transnational Organized Crime of the Organization of American States (OAS-DDOT). This agreement facilitates advisory services, information exchange and OAS-DDOT's participation in the alliance and in the dialogue table to mark the growth and change from COEPA to the Triangles Strategy.
